Kashmir shawl history

                                                       Kashmir shawl history

detailed work

The most striking fact about the history of kashmir is that its people rose to great heights of art, culture and economic prosperity primarily when the impulses came from outside rather than with in.The four foreign rules through which kashmire shawl is developed over the period of more than three hundred years.the four ruling periods are THE MUGHALS,THE AFGHANS,THE SIKHS,AND THE  DOGRAS

It is very difficult to tell one great  period in which kashmire shawl  has developed the most, each culture brought its own unique contribution.the development of kashmire shawl is influenced directly by changing historical circumstance ; it reflects times of peace and war, famine and prosperity, as well as changes in royal patronage

                                             History of kashmiri shawl

It appears that early mughal period represents an important and prosperous moment for the kani shawl. At the time of renaissance was flourishing in the west and the orient too was experiencing great artistic achievements.however there are no dated shawls of mughal period ,and extant piece  attributable to the seventeenth century do not seem to date much earlier than the reign of Jahangir(1605-1627). his reign is important because this is when flowering plant first appeared,a design of delicate beauty which had  a great influence on future generations of shawl designs .

The kashmire people suffered under their  Afghan overlords and this is manifested in the more restrained expressiveness of many of the extant patterns. what was lost in the sensuous lines of the flowering plant  was gained in the regal stature of the more rigorous and hardy plant of the eighteenth century.as the curtain fell on the eighteenth century,Sikh power began to proliferate slowly throughout the punjab and two decades later it engulfed kashmir.A prelude to what would constitute distinct stylistic elements of the sikh period become progressively apparent during this time. Because the effect of political change can be seen in the shawls design an attempt has been made here to classify the shawl according to whoever held power over kashmir at the time of its manufacture

Next will be the origin of kashmir shawl
